SB 1234 – Prohibition; Photo Radar

Sponsored by Sen. Wendy Rogers, this bill would prohibit local
authorities from using a photo radar enforcement system to enforce laws relating to excessive speed or failure to obey a traffic control device. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation’s 2022 Motor Vehicle Crash Facts Report, the number of traffic fatalities in Arizona are at their highest level in
15 years. Most injuries and fatalities are related to excessive speed and right-of-way violations. Photo radar has been shown time and again to be an effective method of improving driver behavior and preventing traffic-related injuries, death, and collision damage.
