SB 1600 – Infants; Born Alive; Requirements

Co-sponsored by Sen. Rogers and Rep. Cook, this bill would broaden a controversial 2017 anti-abortion law that requires clinics, hospitals, and physicians to care for a fetus or embryo “born alive.” This bill specifically prohibits a healthcare professional from depriving any born-alive infant of medically-appropriate and reasonable care or treatment, “regardless
of whether the infant is likely to survive.” This legislation would force futile and potentially invasive and painful medical procedures on infants with no chance of survival, further traumatizing the infant’s parents and healthcare providers, rather than allowing the infant to pass naturally in his or her parents’
loving arms.
