Nancy Hartl grew up in Minot, North Dakota. While her home was one of some love and kindness, it was also fraught with abuse, alcoholism, and racism. Being a woman of strength, Nancy moved out at age 18. She worked many different jobs from truck stop waitress to dental assistant, and put herself through six years of college, working up to three jobs at a time.

In 1982, Nancy graduated from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis with a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in psychology and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in nursing. As she was about to graduate, Nancy attended a dinner provided by a United States Air Force (USAF) recruiter. She decided to raise her right hand and take her oath. Although Nancy originally planned on three years of service, she continued with the Air Force for 20 years.  During her service, she completed a two-year women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP) course and obtained a Master of Science degree (MS) in 1997 at the University of California, San Francisco.

Upon retirement from the military, Nancy secured an excellent position with Kaiser-Permanente, the largest Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in the United States. She worked with Kaiser-Permanente for 11 years, during which time, she was an active proud member of a nursing union. She also worked intermittently at the Women’s Health Specialists clinic, providing needed healthcare to the less privileged population.

Upon retiring in 2019, Nancy moved to Arizona, becoming involved in local and state politics. She also worked at the Pinal County Early Voting Office as a signature verifier. Her experience in this system has reinforced her trust in Arizona’s sound, fair, nonpartisan voting process.

Haley Creighton was born and raised in Chandler, the daughter of a public school teacher and a hospice nurse. She has lived in Arizona her whole life, moving to Flagstaff in 2018 to attend Northern Arizona University. She graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Haley describes herself as queer, a nerd, a woman (sort of), and neurodivergent. She spends most of her free time reading, and her biggest goal in life is to help people.

In 2021, Haley began working with the Arizona Students’ Association to advocate for young people in politics. She has registered hundreds of students to vote, held events both on NAU’s campus and in the greater Flagstaff community, and gotten to know what matters to students and other young people in Arizona.

Roberto, born in Miami, Arizona, of Mexican immigrant parents, attended Bullion Plaza School at a time when it served as a segregated Mexican school and graduated from Miami High School.

After serving four years in the US Air Force during the Korean War, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
Roberto then began a career spanning 24 years on the staff of five Members of Congress in Washington, DC, including Arizona Representatives Stewart L. Udall, Morris K. Udall, and George F. Senner, Jr.

He then worked as an executive with Homestake Mining Company, retiring as Vice President for Government Affairs. During this time, Roberto was affiliated with civic, education, and cultural groups, including serving as co-founder of People for the West, board member of Real Alternatives Project, President of the California Mining Association, President of the Bay Area Public Affairs Council, and service on the Board of Trustees, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Roberto remains engaged in community affairs in the Phoenix metropolitan area and Miami. His volunteer work includes participation in the Association for Development of a Better Environment (ADOBE), Gold Canyon Arts Council, Lions Club, founding president of Gold Canyon Community Inc., co-founder of Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum (housed in the segregated school Reveles attended), Arizona Hispanic Community Forum, Unidos en Arizona, founding president of Somos America/We Are America, Humane Borders, Arizona Latino Arts and Cultural Center, Mano a Mano Unidos Foundation, Raul H. Castro Institute, ASU Morrison Institute’s Latino Public Policy Center, Pinal County People Power Project, Save Our Schools Committee, Uncage and Reunite Families Coalition, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona.

Roberto actively promotes Latino civic engagement and public dialogue on immigration policies, supporting comprehensive reform of the presently ineffective system. He is especially proud of serving as founding president of Somos America/We Are America, the immigrant supportive coalition that organized the April 2006 march in Phoenix by over 200,000 persons, the largest civic gathering in Arizona’s history.
Roberto cites his service with ACLU as the ultimate reward of his community work protecting basic human rights. He served as ACLU’s president from 2010 to 2013 during the class action lawsuit that found Sheriff Joe Arpaio guilty of unconstitutional racial profiling.

In February 2017, Roberto co-founded ACLU’s People Power Project in Pinal County which continues advocating for local law enforcement policies supportive of immigrant rights as well as restoration of voting rights for former felons to reintegrate them as contributing members of society. He currently serves on the Pinal County Commission on Trial Court Appointments.
